Start BIG!

Before you even say it, yes, I am obsessed with David Tutera. His kooky outfits and over the top décor get me every time! After years of planning he also has some great advice. One of his tidbits of wisdom I want all brides to know is to start BIG! Many brides fall into this trap. They find votives, cocktail napkins, place cards and even matchboxes engraved with the couple’s names, and buy them before they have even thought about the centerpieces. It’s not bad to have these things at your wedding, after all there are some pretty cool (and modern) cocktail napkins out there if you know where to look. However, these little chotchkies are no place to start when designing your décor. If you begin small you might very well end up spending your entire décor budget on … well crap! No one will notice if the cocktail napkins don’t match the theme so leave that until later. If you have extra money at the end, that is the time to play with the tiniest details. This is some of the best advice brides will get while planning their wedding. So when you begin conceptualizing your décor details, flowers, linens, chair rentals and other large ticket items are great places to start. These items will impact your space and your budget in a big way so begin here and move on to the chotchkies later. All images are of course David Tutera...

Katie and Jadon

Katie and Jadon will be married tomorrow and I cannot wait! As you know, I love personalized details and their wedding is full of them! There will be a custom corn bag game, unique photo booth, and DIY details at every turn. Katie is crafty and Jadon is handy so they are a DIY dream team! I typically tell couples to scale back on the handmade (i.e. time-consuming) projects but they finished almost every project months before the wedding, which makes this planner very happy! Jadon is a photographer in the Milwaukee area and has seen his share of weddings. Katie is in graphic design and made some rocking stationary for the festivities. They are a fun, laid-back couple who put a lot of time and thought into their wedding day. Not only do they want everything to look amazing but they also want their guests to have a great time. I have a feeling their reception will be hopping Saturday night! (Yes, I just said hopping.) So, while we prepare for the big day I will let you feast your eyes on this adorable couple! Thanks to the talented David Jackson from David E. Jackson Studios for the fabulous pics!  Seriously, go check him...
