The Blush Wedding

I have always loved blush hues and when paired with other colors, the pallet can be soft and feminine or playful and cheery, which makes it a great base for any type of affair.  Lately, I have been working with two brides who are using blush as a base.  One bride is adding citrus tones to give her wedding a light and fun style and the other is adding neutrals to achieve a vintage feel for her day.  I love both styles and can’t wait for what are sure to be two beautiful weddings!   With Honeysuckle coming in as this year’s Pantone color pick and gowns in coral and nude tones flooding the runways, this may be the year of blush and I couldn’t be more happy about it! To incorporate this palette into a romantic, vintage wedding think nude bridesmaid dresses and dusty pink flowers with cream and tan accents.  If you want a more laid back, festive feel to your wedding, go with coral details accented with yellows and splashes of orange. Whytne and Nick

Whytne and Nick are an adorable couple.  Whytne is bubbly, outgoing and as cute as a button (seriously, I can’t wait to see her on her wedding day).  Nick isn’t one of my über-involved grooms but he is supportive and lends a hand with the important details. They enjoy sports, going to the movies and are both Grad Students at UWM.  I love my east side couples, they all seem to have such fresh ideas and are so open to new things.  They make my job pretty easy!   Their wedding will be at the Janesville Country Club in September.  The reception will be filled with flowers and candles and guests will enjoy a modern celebration with traditional elements sprinkled throughout.   Don’t Blink Photography captured their engagement...

The Late Night Snack

When the late night buffet started a few years back it was new and exciting.  Late night food is still a fun treat but it is far from unexpected or innovative.  Guests love noshing on a little something after hours of dancing and a few drinks.  I find that the most popular foods are what I call “drunk food”.  Guests love pizza, nachos, burgers and don’t even get me started on milk shakes, guests go bonkers for them! I have nothing against midnight snacks.  In fact, I think they are wonderful!  However, I want my couples to bring a fresh perspective and a new twist to the table.  Food is an amazing way to personalize your wedding and your midnight refreshments are a great place to have fun!  So serve your favorite drunk food, set up a taco bar or call in a hot dog carte where guests can order their favorite sausage and trim it with all the toppings.  If you prefer sweet, bring in doughnuts or an assortment of flavored caramel corn.  Do whatever you want, just make it scream...

Extreme Flower Arranging

How did you spend your Friday night?  I would bet you didn’t spend it participating in an extreme flower arranging competition!  Well, it may not have been extreme but it was a part of my Friday night plans.  I enjoyed the evening with my assistant at a cocktail party hosted by Laurel from Bloom Floral and Event Design.  Laurel is amazingly talented and throws a great party to boot! Sharing tasty food and some great drinks was a wonderful way for the vendors and associates she works with to get to know each other.  One of the evening’s activities was a 30 minute arranging and design challenge.  We each picked a number randomly, which coordinated with a vase.  Laurel had tall vases, short vases, skinny and fat vases and some even had an extra obstacle …dun dun dun… a ribbon. (And not always the best ribbon to match the flowers we had!) Tom, my lead assistant got a squat vase with a rainbow ribbon and not to call him out or anything, but he tried switching with someone (clearly a violation of the rules).  It’s alright though, we didn’t let him and even though he hated his vase, I think he did a good job! I contemplated not posting my creation … and decided to just go for it.  But before you ask, no, I didn’t win!  I am not gifted in the floral arrangement category.  I can come up with a beautiful mix of flowers and colors to use but arrange them?  Not a chance!  This is why I leave the arranging to professionals like Laurel. Hope you...
